APRIL 2022

MARKET RASEN TABLE TENNIS CLUB – venue Faldingworth Village, Lincs.

Following the difficult years of the pandemic we can certainly say that our Club has not only survived but has just had its most successful season in team achievements than ever before in 2021/22,  at every level. We welcome all ages, provide coaching for the junior element and League play for those who want to compete and County representation.

It's a small club with few members – able to use 4 tables when needed.   We are indebted to the Memorial Hall Committee who has not only welcomed us for more than 5 years now, but we can boast super conditions for single league play during the winter/spring matches.  We started up the club in 2006 in the MR Cricket pavilion, then moved on to the local De-Aston School for a few years and now are happily at Faldingworth Memorial Hall.  Our website relates our history in more detail. https://marketrasentabletennis.webador.co.uk

Local Success

We currently have 3 competing teams in the Lincoln League.   Our 1st team, for the first time, won the 1st division – we had Lesley Keast (MR), young Chloe Lingard(Grimsby), Marilyn Bawden (Sleaford) and young Jack Bradley (Skegness) who achieved this – 3 ladies with 1 fellow – a 1st.  Our 2nd team Cpt Michael Tindall (Mkt Rasen) Jacob Bennett (Mkt Rasen), Derek Fuller (Timberland), Dave Heppenstall (Sutton on Sea), Steve Naylor (Middle Rasen), and Roy Ellis (Lincoln), in the same division gladly did not finish at the bottom, but managed to fulfil their fixtures with a full team at all matches.  Our 3rd team, in division 2 – Sylvia Tyler(MR), Henry James (Mid.R), and father and son Charlie and Tom Carter (Faldingworth) did admirably.  This team concentrates solely on the junior side of the club and each year loses its players to University quite consistently, as we have seen over the years. This year is no exception but we are proud that we promote the juniors.

National Success

Our Ladies Veterans team in England’s Vetts British League finished top of the Premier division 2021/22 – A big achievement.  Our thanks to Lesley Keast (Mkt Rasen) and guest members Rose Rainton (Sussex), Jane Vickers (Derbyshire) and Sarah Horsnell (Middx).

Social Evenings.

These are every Friday 7.15pm – 9.15pm, especially now as our League matches are now finished until September.    We would love to see you.   All ages are welcome £3 each session.   We will carry through until the end of June providing the hall doesn’t get too hot, however not over the Easter weekend though.    Table tennis is more active in the winter/spring seasons.

You can contact Sylvia Tyler (Gen.Sec.) 01673 843655 for further information.

Market Rasen Table Tennis Club

On Saturday 7th July 2018 the National Assoc. of Boys and Girls Clubs Table Tennis Championship finals took place at Dean's Sport & Leisure, Lincoln. The Market Rasen Junior Table Tennis Club entered Jacob Bennett, James Naseby and Henry James.

Both Jacob and James already play in the Lincoln League in the 2nd Division (we came runners up this year - Jacob with an impressive 95% and James 55% in his first season of league play - quite an achievement for the young folk). Henry, playing in his first competitive competition ever at these Championships, will be joining the boys next season together with his friend Tom Weeks both from Middle Rasen and Alister McNeil of Moortown - another up and coming junior.

Jacob who played in the U'19's category and finished in 2nd place, said, "This is the first time I have played against a guy in a wheelchair - what a great experience to witness how he still excels in his sport".

James played in the U'16's category and finished in 3rd place. He said "I am glad I came and enjoyed all my tight matches, I hope to play in some more tournaments in the future".

Henry, who played in the U'14's category and finished in 6th place said "This was the first time I have played in a tournament and I think that I have improved a lot having played it"
